Your foundation gives all students the opportunity to learn about George, Blue Dog, warm colors, cool colors, color mixing, line, background, foreground, and many other art principles! My students spend days contemplating where their Blue Dog should be or how will Blue Dog be decorated. They share their ideas with each other in the art room, their classroom, during recess, and at lunch. They discuss Blue Dog options with their parents and siblings. Their Blue Dog creations are displayed throughout the school, prompting more discussion. Students in younger grades excitedly await their turn to create a Blue Dog! What a fantastic learning opportunity! Thank you for being an active part of my students education!Kflanaganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00819773082365502094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8079877794128349006.post-79428365507558701912013-03-19T13:02:32.106-05:002013-03-19T13:02:32.106-05:00Hi Anon, These students are not trying to pass of...Hi Anon, These students are not trying to pass off their paintings as art by Rodrigue; the artwork is not for sale; and the pieces are all original, without producing reproductions or products using the images. For the above reasons combined, they are not copyright violations. For more on this, our House Counsel, Jacques Rodrigue, wrote a detailed blog post, linked below (you may have to copy and paste into your browser):

http://www.wendyrodrigue.com/2012/04/blue-dog-and-intellectual-property.html

We share often with adult audiences as well, so no, the fact that they are children is irrelevant to the copyright issue.

Most schools teach George's art and that of other artists without the artist's knowledge. Through our foundation, in fact, we offer free lesson plans to educators.

Thank you for your inquiry.Wendy Rodrigue Magnushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08289447655110009690noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8079877794128349006.post-64157739984881134572013-03-19T12:10:45.536-05:002013-03-19T12:10:45.536-05:00How do you decide whom to prosecute or not for cop...How do you decide whom to prosecute or not for copyright infringement. I realize that you wrote of a school and of your support of the arts in public education. When George goes to lecture/workshop It seems appropriate to me that people are copying him, but I'm surprised that you were pleased a school was doing it without your knowledge. Is it just because they are kids? Mrs. ElRoy's class looks like they do a pretty good job of making Blue Dogs. I was trying to sell art in grade school and if I saw how much people would pay for a Blue Dog you can bet I would have been plotting how to capitalize off of it.
